Fan Mail

We don’t often get fan mail here at blandiose.org (or any mail, for that matter), so the envelope that arrived via the good ol’ U.S. Postal Service on Friday was a surprise. It was addressed to me, with the second line reading “Blandiose.org”. Well, ok, that’s a first.

The letter had a West Palm Beach postmark - not a total shock since I used to live and work there. Some people, rumor has it, remember me from my time at the Palm Beach Post, even if they won’t admit to any personal affection. Inside the envelope were two photographs, which was a little bit odd. Both were taken sometime in 1994, I’m guessing, on the same day in Gainesville, Fla. At the time I was in grad school and working at the Alligator, UF’s independent student paper.

The first photo had me standing in the Alligator’s offices, while the second was taken across the street at our unofficial meeting place, Farah’s. Beer was present, along with photographer Rob Browman and Christopher Skokna, another ink-stained wretch now at Baltimore City Paper.

Just those two pictures, and nothing else. So, without invoking agents Mulder and Scully, who wants to shed some light on the source of said photos? I’m always available by email, too.

  1. Post the pic, Derek! Hey, we need to get together with Terry, Edie, J., and other W/B-area Alligator folks one of these days.
